What it costs
The app is free to any household and will stay free, without advertising and without selling anything about you. Researchers, utilities and commercial users pay for the bulk feed, and that is the whole business model written in two sentences.

Questions about the readings
Where the data comes from, how accurate a strip test is, what the colours mean and what the app will never do.
Where does the data come from?
About sixty-nine per cent from the utility’s own published test results, parsed daily out of the PDFs they are published in, and thirty-one per cent from households using strip tests. The two are never averaged together and every reading shows which it is.
How accurate is a strip test?
Much less accurate than a laboratory, and useful anyway. It tells you about one tap at one moment. The app labels every strip reading as such in the same size type as the reading itself, and researchers can exclude them in one filter.
What do the colours mean?
Green and amber follow the national drinking water standard for the determination shown. Grey means no reading inside thirty days, and thirty-one zones are grey today. We would rather show grey than a reassuring colour attached to an old number.
Is my water safe?
This app cannot tell you that and does not claim to. It shows what was measured, when, by whom and by what method. For anything you are worried about, a laboratory test of your own tap is the answer and we will tell you which laboratories are accredited for it.
Is it really free?
Yes, permanently, for any household. No advertising, no account, no location collected unless you choose a zone, and nothing about you sold to anybody. The bulk data feed is what pays for the three of us.

Thirty-one zones are grey. They publish that number monthly, at least.
